VMRO-DPMNE President Hristijan Mickoski met with Italian Ambassador to Macedonia Carlo Romeo today, to discuss the political and economic situation and the state of Macedonia’s strategic priorities following the defeat at the October European Council in Brussels.
Italy is expected to hold the next GAC meeting of EU countries and its Prime Minister Conte is attempting to revive the push for EU enlargement toward the Balkans.
Mickoski said that the European perspective is a key strategic goal for both the Republic of Macedonia and VMRO-DPMNE and that the party has a plan to fast-track the country toward the EU. The country is currently blocked as a result of the lack of reforms and the poorly positioned policies of the Zaev Government, Mickoski told Romeo during the meeting, per a VMRO-DPMNE press release.
Mickoski and Romeo also discussed the major corruption scandals that are developing around the Zaev Government. According to Mickoski, this level of unchecked corruption and crime is affecting domestic and foreign businesses in Macedonia, and VMRO-DPMNE calls for a thorough investigation and prosecution into the Racket scandals.
