Orthodox believers who respect the Julian calendar today celebrate Christmas, the birth of Christ, as a holiday whose main meaning is family gathering, socializing and reminding of basic human values.

The first day of Christmas is a day of joy of birth, renewal of life, while the second day is spent in a solemn, quiet home mood, and in churches a thanksgiving liturgy of the Mother of God is served.

It is customary for people to greet each other with “Christ is born” and “He is truly born”, and the holiday of Christ’s birth is full of many other customs, the most famous of which is the laying of the Christmas tree, covering the homes with straw and other customs.
