One constituency, no election threshold, open lists, proportional model – the smaller parliamentary parties again, this time ahead of the vote for a new government, are renewing their demand for electoral legislation reform.
However, they do not specify whether this will be a condition for the government in exchange for their parliamentary votes for the new government composition, but say they will insist that all major parties give the green light as soon as possible. At a meeting in the Parliament, five MPs who are signatories of the bill from March this year, said that the goal is not the salvation of small parties, but equality of the vote.
The first attempt of the MPs to change the Electoral Code before last year’s parliamentary elections was unsuccessful with an amendment block by VMRO-DPMNE and DUI, so in 2020 the same model was voted, accepted in 2002. This spring, however, after the last leadership meeting with Zaev, the leader of VMRO-DPMNE Mickoski said that one constituency is acceptable for them, but DUI remained against.
