On Friday, prosecutor Sonja Simovska from the State Public Prosecutor’s Office was elected as the Acting Chief Public Prosecutor by the Council of Public Prosecutors.

Dushica Dimitrieska, the president of the Council, nominated Simovska, emphasizing her extensive experience within the institution. Dimitrieska commended Simovska’s track record as a proficient prosecutor, expressing confidence in her ability to carry out the responsibilities effectively.

Simovska’s appointment as acting chief prosecutor spans up to six months. The tenure of the current Chief Public Prosecutor, Ljubomir Joveski, concludes on December 25. The ongoing selection process involves three candidates: Fatime Fetai from the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office – Skopje, Lidija Raichevikj from the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office – Skopje, and Ljupcho Kocevski from the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Macedonia.
