Voters across Macedonia elect mayors in 44 municipalities and the city of Skopje tomorrow, after 35 municipalities elected mayors and all elected their councils in the first round on October 17th.
The State Electoral Commission has practiced improving the speed of voting after delays caused by the fingerprint devices that are used to certify voters for the first time.
Voters will be required to wear masks and sanitize their hands often, submit their identity cards or passports and undergo the fingerprint scan, after which they will be given a ballot (two ballots in several Skopje municipalities that vote both for Mayor of Skopje and a local Mayor). Voters will be asked to keep their distance and wait for an available voting booth.
Voting starts at 7 in the morning and ends at 19 in the evening – with possible more added if long lines develop. All who are in line at 19h will be allowed to vote.
Results should start arriving by 20h, as the parties involved always release their initial estimates, and turnout will be updated throughout the day by the SEC.
