The Zaev Government sent a proposal to the Parliament to triple property tax on second homes and vacation homes.
Citizens will be required to report their properties they not living in, and if they fail to do so, they will face taxes five times the norm. If approved in Parliament, this regulation will go into effect starting in 2022.
Macedonia has relatively low property taxes, as the Government collects most of the revenue through the VAT sales tax and through income tax, but the Government has been looking for new sources of revenue given the dramatic deficit of 2020 and the almost as bad projection for 2021.
