For a whole day, the authorities has been silent over the threats made by Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva that Bulgaria will veto the start of Macedonia’s EU talks if it not accept the historical truth that it has Bulgarian roots. Finally today, only after the calls from the opposition leader Hristijan Mickoski and the media, the government stated its position for Faktor.

The government told the news portal that the Macedonian language and the Macedonian identity are facts confirmed by the United Nations and there should be no dilemma about this.

The Government of the Republic of Macedonia is for dialogue that will lead to solutions to open issues. We believe that at this stage, by making political statements, the process of talks between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs should not be disrupted, according to the Government, reported Faktor.

The government is ready to accept the clarification of certain concerns that exist in Sofia and hopes that looking through a positive prism, Macedonia will achieve its goal – to start accession negotiations with the EU by year’s end.

We remind you that there is no need for a new agreement nor for an annex to the agreement. The fact is that we have a common history that is confirmed in the Agreement on Good Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation and if we focus on the future, the common history should be used to find a solution. The government encourages experts from the Joint Commission on Historical Issues to continue to find solutions, the Government told Faktor.
