The Alternative Party today held a press conference in which party leader Afrim Gashi said that all its representatives will vote to remove the Zaev Government at the session scheduled for tomorrow.

This is important since one Alternative MP, Skender Rexhepi, showed signs he could change his mind about the vote. Rexhepi joined Gashi during the press conference today, meaning that the opposition bloc should have the 61 votes it needs to topple Zaev. Gashi pointed that the populist Levica party is not on the renewed list of representatives who initiated the vote of no confidence, which removes Rexhepi’s main objection.

The important thing is that tomorrow all four Alternative members of Parliament will cast a vote of no confidence in thе Government. We were bombarded these past days and we are very proud we reached this decision. There could be other representatives who are not on the list, but will vote with us. We shall see tomorrow, Gashi hinted.

Gashi avoided questions about whether the opposition parties will then be able to form a coalition of their own, given the uneasy relationship of the Albanian parties like Alternative with Levica. He said that given the serious energy crisis and the Covid crisis it is not advisable to have snap elections, and that it would be better to form a new coalition within the current Parliament, that would maintain Macedonia’s Euro-Atlantic course.
