German Minister for Europe, social-democrat Michael Roth, called on the EU member states to approve opening of accession talks for Macedonia and Albania. In an editorial in the FAZ, Roth claims that both countries have advanced and now it is time for the EU to deliver.
Roth is an outspoken supporter of the Zaev regime. His comment comes as his SPD party fell to third place in the German European elections, and their senior coalition partner CDU/CSU announced they oppose opening of accession talks just yet.
Roth would frequently visit Macedonia to encourage the humiliating name change, promising that once the “name issue is resolved”, the EU will easily open accession talks. Now France, the Netherlands, Denmark and possibly even Germany oppose the opening of talks.
