Disgraced Special Prosecutor Katica Janeva filed for a sick leave from the SPO office claiming she suffers from anxiety. Janeva announced her tentative resignation two weeks ago, following the arrest of her close associate Bojan Jovanovski – Boki 13, on charges of extorting millions from businessmen who were hoping to get preferential treatment from Janeva.

She also immediately took out a sick leave, which many in the public suspected is bogus. Member of Parliament Antonio Milososki yesterday published the note and the diagnosis, saying that it seems meant to help Janeva establish a case that she is not fit for a possible future trial.

This type of diagnosis is the most difficult to evaluate and confirm. The secrecy surrounding her sick leave implies that she may be preparing to build up a longer record of illness, which she would use in her favor if it gets to trial, Milososki said.

Janeva still hasn’t been charged for her alleged role in the racketeering scandal. She is reportedly coming to work from time to time, and it was reported that she ordered the formatting of all SPO computers, which would destroy work logs. The opposition VMRO-DPMNE party demands that Janeva is detained to stop her from destroying any more evidence, especially after she claimed that she lost one of her phones, only to have it uncovered with the girlfriend of her son, who she hired in the SPO office.
