Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski said that the number of illegal migrants attempting to cross the border from Greece has grown in 2018.

The number of attempts, and the number of uncovered migrants has grown. What worries is that a large number of illegal migrants are attempting to use the services of smugglers, not only those from the country but from across the entire region, Spasovski said during a meeting on migration in Ohrid.

Macedonia is a key country on the Balkan route and in 2016 Macedonian authorities were the ones who closed the route which, along with the EU – Turkish treaty, ended the migrant crisis.
Spasovski insisted that the overall situation on the border is good and that, if the pressure increases, Macedonia will be able to respond, including with the deployment of troops on the borders with Greece and with Serbia.
