Disgraced prosecutor Katica Janeva was allowed to examine the evidence in the corruption case against her today over a few hours.

Janeva was driven to the office of the OJO/PPO prosecutors and left there for some three hours to inspect the evidence. She was later escorted to the Sutka prison, where she is serving a second detention order of 30 days, but her lawyers remained to work in OJO.

The witness testimonies include the statements from three former prosecutors in Janeva’s SPO office – Lile Stefanova, Elizabeta Josifovska and Burim Rustemi. The three worked on SPO cases which Janeva is believed to have used to extort money. These three are not charged yet.

Janeva’s lawyers Irena Frckoska and Deljo Kadiev said that they were not allowed to see the testimony of one of the accused – Zoran Mileski – Zoki Kicheec, who is charged as one of the bag men who worked for Janeva as she was extorting money from businessmen who she was prosecuting with her SPO office.

This testimony was not given to us, and no explanation for this was provided. We were given the statements of the witnesses, but not of the co-defendants. We believe that we should be allowed to inspect them, the two lawyers said after the visit to the OJO office.

Unlike Janeva, and the third defendant, showman Bojan Jovanovski – Boki 13, who are both detained, Mileski was released from detention into house arrest. This prompted speculation that he is cooperating with the prosecution. Janeva and Boki 13 refused to testify before OJO prosecutor Vilma Ruskoska until they are allowed to inspect the evidence.
