Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski announced that Macedonia will not seek compensation from the European Union after it joined the EU sanctions against Russia. According to Kovacevski, it is not “decent” to ask for reimbursement during a crisis.
When it comes to a global crisis, we can’t say that a country or a group of countries like the EU need to compensate other countries. To be honest, all are exposed to the crisis, Kovacevski said.
He pointed to the fact that people in Brussels had far greater increases in their energy prices and food prices compared to Macedonia, and then detailed how Macedonia already gains from some EU funds, including in infrastructure and received assistance from the EU during the Covid crisis of 120 million EUR.
