VMRO-DPMNE Vice President Aleksandar Nikoloski called on Public Prosecutor Ljubomir Joveski to investigate the suspicious issuing of bad credits to companies in Strumica, via the now failed Eurostandard Bank.
Nikoloski spoke as the Parliament reviewed the reports about the bank, which gave loans totaling over 12 million EUR to 29 companies in Strumica that were clearly linked and did not meet the criteria. The bank depositors are now being recouped from a collective fund supported by the state budget and other commercial banks, while the companies who took the loans may likely avoid paying them back.
All of the companies are in Strumica, have business or ownership ties, have the same managers, and received loans which they didn’t pay back. They ceased paying back the loans in a coordinated fashion, at the same time period. This shows that it was a planned operation. The collapse of the Eurostandard Bank is the biggest financial scandal in our country since the TAT pyramidal scheme, Nikoloski said.
Previously, the owner of the bank Trifun Kostovski accused the ruling SDSM party of bringing down Eurostandard for its own financial gain.
