VMRO-DPMNE deputy leader Aleksandar Nikoloski pointed to a number of instances when the opposition warned the SDSM led Government that they are gambling away the chance to open EU accession talks with their subservient position toward the DUI party and toward Albania.
Nikoloski shared a video from Deputy Prime Minister Bujar Osmani who dismissed the problem and blamed the opposition of fear-mongering about Albanians whenever Nikoloski would point to the problem of coupling the two countries together.
We were clearly told that a number of countries have serious issues with giving Albania an accession date. They don’t have such issues with regard to Macedonia. And if we remain coupled, these countries would be put in a position to either approve us as a package or, more likely, reject us as a package, Nikoloski told Osmani in a debate as far back as April 2018.
That was before the 2018 European Council, when Zaev had his first rejection by the EU, but said that he received guarantees to open accession talks in June 2019. Last week Macedonia, in a group with Albania, was blocked by France and number of other EU countries, while the Zaev Government did not put a visible effort to decouple the country from Albania.
