Alojz Gombar, the nephew of Mother Teresa, had a short meeting with Pope Francis today. The two met on Macedonia street, in front of the Mother Teresa memorial house.
He greeted me cordially, we kissed. He presented me and my daughter with a prayerbook and a cross in velvet boxes. We are overjoyed, said the popular goldsmith from Skopje.
Due to the strict security procedures, Gombar was unable to present his own gift to the Pontiff, a painting representing the sacrament, which is being delivered to the Pope via his security detail.
Mother Teresa was born in Skopje in 1910 as Agnesa Bondza Bojadziu, and she reportedly had several visions while living here, which enticed her to dedicate her life to the service of others.
