BESA party leader Bilal Kasami believes that the video of his member of Parliament Kastriot Rexhepi was filmed under duress. Rexhepi went missing today as the Parliament was preparing to hold a vote of no confidence in the Zaev Government, and his absence is derailing the vote.

The video we saw shared online is pre-recorded, not live, and Rexhepi is reading a pre-prepared text. We reported him and his family as missing persons to the police, and we plead with the institutions to locate him and ensure his safety. His political leaning now is irrelevant, given the situation. All we care about is his health and safety. The BESA movement is now fully committed that this Government must fall, Kasami said.

BESA left the Zaev coalition over the difficult local elections fights in Tetovo and Zelino with the DUI party, and announced it will vote to topple the SDSM – DUI coalition. Its three votes in Parliament would’ve been decisive in voting Zaev out, but Rexhepi’s disappearance meant that the opposition is one vote short.

Kasami said that he is in contact with international representatives over this crisis. He referred to the tactics of the Zaev Government as “terrorist and criminal”, adding that members of Parliament are not allowed to vote freely.
