Macedonian capital Skopje is again setting world records in air pollution. Based on the Air Visual worldwide air quality ranking, Skopje was ranked worst in the world on Monday, ahead even some of the Chinese industrial powerhouses like Wuhan and Chongqing.
Lahore, Delhi and Dhaka, other famously polluted cities, were also well behind the Macedonian capital.
The air pollution index score of 266 is described by Air Visual as extremely hazardous for the inhabitants. Stations measuring the levels of PM10 particles across the country also showed a hugely elevated reading 515 micrograms per cubic meter of air in Skopje, as a heavy fog stuck over the city on Monday morning. Citizens shared pictures of the horrific levels of air pollution, and a small protest was held in front of the Government on Saturday.
