Rubau Construcciones, the Spanish construction company which was hired to work on the Prilep – Gradsko motorway, is suing Macedonia for 100 million EUR in damages after the contract was annulled.
The Spanish company blames Zaev’s handpicked head of the Macedonian Roads company Zoran Kitanov of “putting narrow partisan interests first” and moving to cancel their contract. The Spaniards have hired the Hogan Lovells law firm to sue the Government for cancelling the contract.
Rubau was hired to build one of the three stages of the motorway, 10 kilometers in length. The road is currently stalled, like much of the other infrastructure projects initiated by the previous, VMRO-DPMNE led Government.
Former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski recently warned that the country will be forced to start paying significant damages for a number of projects which Zaev is cancelling.
