Interior Minister Oliver Spasovski said that the police was preparing to question the bus driver on Thursday evening, as prosecutors are determining the cause for the tragic crash which killed 14 people.

The investigation is on-going, forensics work on the ground has been completed and tomorrow we will have the initial findings. The driver is being questioned this evening and we will determine the cause for this major tragedy, Spasovski said.

The Durmo company bus was taking mostly employees and students from Skopje to their native Gostivar along the Skopje – Tetovo highway, when it drove through the opposite lane and broke the protective barrier and landed upside-down in a ditch.

Spasovski also said that the Interior Ministry has filed five criminal charges for hate speech over the accident, implying that one of them is against professor Biljana Vankovska. Vankovska wrote on Facebook that the crash is both “tragic and ironic” as it happened close to the Karpalak site where during the 2001 war 10 Macedonian army reservists were killed in an ambush by the Albanian UCK terrorist group. This remark was deemed offensive by Albanians and other commentators.
