Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski refrained from specifying a timeline for a meeting with VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski regarding the caretaker government during Wednesday’s interactions with reporters.
“Given my resignation, it will be tendered within the legal timeframe, by the end of the week following the upcoming one. Yesterday, the Parliament outlined the schedule for the caretaker government’s vote. Hence, everything will proceed in adherence to the law,” Kovachevski stated.
He confirmed an impending meeting with VMRO-DPMNE, emphasizing its focus on preparing for the electoral process.
“The caretaker government is defined by law. SDSM has put forth its nominees for this government, and VMRO-DPMNE will likely do the same. Subsequently, we’ll proceed to the Parliament for voting, followed by elections,” Kovachevski elaborated.
Additionally, the PM highlighted ongoing discussions within SDSM about a collective candidacy with all coalition partners for the upcoming elections. However, he clarified that current talks centered on outlining programs and visions for the country rather than specific details concerning MP candidate lists.
The session for electing the caretaker government is scheduled for January 27-28, with the PM’s resignation expected in the preceding week. Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi will also step down from the post due to his nomination as caretaker PM, while SDSM MP Jovan Mitreski has been nominated as his potential successor.
