EU Ambassador David Geer emphasized the EU’s steadfast dedication to the European integration of Macedonia and the broader Western Balkans during a statement on Wednesday. Geer underlined that the progress toward EU accession hinges significantly on implementing crucial reforms.

When asked by reporters about Macedonia’s potential divergence from the EU, particularly regarding the impasse related to constitutional amendments and the rise of the European far-right ahead of the European Parliament elections, Ambassador Geer refrained from speculating on election outcomes. Instead, he underscored the EU’s resolute stance, stating, “The EU made its commitment to the Western Balkans evident in December, marked by the historic decision to initiate accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova. Your path to joining the EU depends on implementing reforms and adhering to the mutually agreed-upon course.”
