The report that Zoran Zaev has appointed Aleksandar Ruzin as his adviser drew additional scrutiny to the flamboyant son of former Ambassador Nano Ruzin.

Ruzin Jr. is paid twice the Macedonian average salary (50.000 denars – 810 EUR) per month to advise Zaev on bringing in foreign investment from France and the Benelux countries. He lived there while his father was Ambassador to NATO and together they developed a business where they’d export second hand cars to Macedonia, while Nano held the diplomatic office. Aleksandar Ruzin is now best known for dating the occasional starlet.

After the revelation of his appointment as Zaev’s adviser, the Internet quickly dug up a bizarre post he wrote in 2014. In it, Aleksandar Ruzin performs a numerological analysis of the phone number of late musical superstar Tose Proeski, his age at the time of his death in a tragic car crash in 2007, the number of letters in his name etc, and comes to the conclusion that the number 26 = God in ancient Hebrew.

The post, on top of Ruzin’s lack of obvious experience in the job he is hired to do, raised questions over his suitability to the position.
