In Washington, Minister of Interior Oliver Spasovski engaged in a meeting with Robert Paschall, the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Affairs at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, according to a statement from the Ministry of Interior.
Expressing gratitude, Minister Spasovski acknowledged the United States’ support to Macedonia, citing assistance from the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Justice, and State Department, particularly through the International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP). He emphasized that the meeting symbolizes an enhanced partnership and collaboration between the two nations in the field of internal security. Spasovski stressed the importance of joint activities, including training, information exchange, and collaborative operations outlined in a Memorandum of Cooperation to address transnational crime, terrorism, cyber threats, and other security challenges. He highlighted the significance of U.S. expertise, resources, and experience in enhancing the capabilities of law enforcement agencies and fostering bilateral cooperation.
Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary Paschall expressed the United States’ appreciation for its partnership with Macedonia, citing the country’s notable efforts and ranking among the top 10 nations collaborating with the U.S. in counterterrorism. He underscored the importance of discussions on the U.S. Visa Waiver Program, illegal migration, and border security, emphasizing the relevance of these topics to maintaining a visa-free regime.
Both parties concluded that efforts should be made to facilitate worry-free travel for law-abiding citizens while making it challenging for others, as outlined in the press release.
