In the second round of the local elections, which will be held on Sunday, October 31, 2021, voting will take place in a total of 44 municipalities. 1,353,990 voters are eligible to vote at 2,481 polling stations.
There will be a re-vote for mayor and council at a polling station in Debar, and a re-vote a at polling station in Suto Orizari for council members. The Administrative Court annulled the voting at these two polling stations for the first round of local elections that took place on October 17.
On Sunday, there will be no voting for mayor in Mavrovo-Rostuse and Centar Zupa because the legal threshold for voting in the first round of elections to have a turnout of at least one third of the registered voters in the Voters’ List was not met. The SEC will inform the Government about these two municipalities, and then a repeated voting for mayor will be organized in Mavrovo-Rostuse and Centar Zupa in accordance with the Law on Local Self-Government. Council members are elected because they do not require a census.
The sick and frail, displaced persons, inmates and detainees are voting on Saturday.
Voting for the sick and frail will be conducted by members of the election boards where they are registered by visiting their homes, while for persons infected with Covid-19 and in isolation the voting will be conducted by special election boards composed of health professionals.
For the first time in the local elections, fingerprint devices are applied, and the general measures for protection against Covid-19 will be observed.
