Workers today began to tear down the cast iron fence around the Government building. The decision was announced by Zoran Zaev as one of his first tasks after forming the Government, a year and a half ago.
According to the Government, this will make the complex more accessible to the public and the iron will be melted down to make benches for the near-by park. Still, its concrete pillars will remain in place because they were dug in too deep to be removed.
The fence was put in place during the Colored Revolution initiated by Zaev’s SDSM party, when his supporters staged several violent protests and attempted to force their way into the building. The once drab looking Communist era complex was completely remade during the VMRO-DPMNE term in office in the neo-Classical style.
