Zoran Zaev announced that he will likely be the first Macedonian citizen to receive a bilingual Macedonian – Albanian passport stating the name of the country as “North Macedonia”. In an interview with the primarily Albanian language Alsat TV, Zaev was using the name “North Macedonia”.

He dismissed Greek objections to a move by the Interior Ministry to order a large quantity of blank passports which still state “Republic of Macedonia” and assured the Greek public that he will get a passport with the new name. Implementation of the name domestically, if Greece ratifies the Prespa deal, will depend on Greek approval of Macedonia’s entry into the European Union.
