German Chancellor Angela Merkel posted a video on Facebook Friday announcing that she will delete her page on the social media platform, Politico reported.

Merkel declared in October that she would relinquish leadership of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) but stay on as chancellor until the end of her term in 2021.

In the video, Merkel thanked her 2.5 million followers and invited them to continue following the government’s official Facebook page and her Instagram account.

“Today is the day on which I would like to thank you for all your support of my Facebook page,” she said. “You know that I am no longer CDU president, so I will now close my Facebook page.”

In December, the CDU elected Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer as their new leader.
