Avalanches in several Italian alpine resorts have killed a total of nine people, mountain rescue services said on Monday.

The avalanches happened on Sunday and hit off-piste skiers, the National Alpine Cliff and Cave Rescue Corps (CNSAS) wrote on Twitter.

Following the discovery of three victims near Courmayeur, close to the Swiss border in the Valle d’Aosta region, the body of a fourth missing person was recovered on Monday, a spokesman for the mountain rescue team told dpa.

A total of seven people died in the north-western region of Valle d’Aosta, one in the mountains north of Milan and another in the German-speaking province of South Tyrol.
