The Bundesliga match between Bayern Munich and Union Berlin was called off due to heavy snowfall and safety concerns, as confirmed by Union Berlin and Munich’s transport authority. Although the pitch was heated and playable, the safety of spectators’ journeys, especially those traveling from afar, became a primary concern.
The snow and ice led to significant traffic disruptions in southern Germany, prompting the temporary suspension of flight operations at Munich Airport until noon. Around 320 out of 760 scheduled flights for the day were canceled due to the weather.
Railway lines in and around Munich faced closures overnight, causing temporary suspensions of train services to and from the main railway station. Passengers in Ulm and Munich had to spend the night on trains due to these disruptions.
