The Balkan Regional Cooperation Council estimates that five million people from the six Western Balkan countries have emigrated to the European Union in the past seven years.

According to Majlinda Bregu from the RCC, the demographics and emigration flows are transforming both Europe and the Balkans. The emigration levels amount to a quarter of the population of the Balkans, says Bregu.

RCC analysis shows that 62 percent of the young people in the Balkans would like to leave, while their unemployment rate is at 35 percent.
