A total of 17 amendments have been proposed to the joint European Parliament resolution to be voted at noon. The resolution calls on member states to show responsibility for Macedonia and Albania and to unanimously make a positive decision to open negotiations at their next meeting, MIA’s correspondent reported.
The amendments proposed by Renew Europe require “to delete in paragraph 1 that North Macedonia and Albania were blocked by France, Denmark and the Netherlands”.
Further, the Renew Europe group, which includes Emmanuel Macron’s party, called for the resolution to add that “one of the arguments in favor of the delay focused on the need to revise the current format of accession negotiations. It considers that such an overview, which includes lessons learned from previous enlargements, should be undertaken by the future European Commission, together with legislative work on the new instrument for pre-accession assistance (IPA III), with an ambitious preparedness agenda by the European Council in May 2020 in Zagreb.
