The family of politician Bajram Berat (64) report that he has died yesterday.

Berat was one of the leading Roma politicians in Macedonia, and was President of the PCER party – the first Roma party in Macedonia – from 1997 until 1999. A trained officer and epidemiologist, Berat also worked on helping Roma refugees from Kosovo and held a number of positions in international organizations and the Macedonian Government.
