Macedonia suffered its by far worst death toll of the epidemic today – 30 coroanvirus deaths were reported over the past 24 hours.
Six people died in Skopje, aged 54, 57, 64, 66, 68 and 80. Five died in Kumanovo – aged 58, 64, 67, 68 and 78. Five died in Tetovo – aged 58, 60, 62, 69 and 80. Five in Kavadarci – aged 70, 70, 73, 74 and 77. Three died in Prilep – aged 57, 58 and 72. Two died in Radovis – aged 68 and 71. One death was reported in Bitola – patient aged 78. One died in Kocani – aged 52. One person died in Stip – aged 67. And one death is reported in Gostivar – patient aged 67.
This dismal report brings the total death toll of the epidemic up to 1,186.
The Healthcare Ministry reported 3,042 tests over the past 24 hours, with 947 of them coming back positive. Skopje has 530 new cases, Tetovo 54 and Bitola and Ohrid 43 each.
The number of active cases now stands at 15,116 – five times what it was before this autumn second wave began. Skopje has about half of the active cases, and other worst affected cities are Tetovo (nearly 1,000), Prilep (762), Kumanovo (660), Veles (672)…
Hospitals remain hard pressed. The Infectious Diseases Clinic admitted 10 new patients and currently has 161 – 132 of them receiving supplemental oxygen. The 8th of September hospital received nine new patients, and has 79 in total – six on mechanical ventilation. The Kozle children’s hospital treats 11 children and 29 adults. The old TBC institute and two other clinics in the Mother Teresa complex, which were recently turned into a Covid-19 wards, have nearly a 100 patients.
In regional centers, Stip, which covers the eastern part of the country, treats 57 patients, and Bitola, in the south-west – has 75 patients. Over 500 less patients with less severe symptoms are hospitalized in other general hospitals across the country.
