The European Union’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, confirmed on Tuesday his plans to attend the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) meeting in Skopje, clarifying that he would not engage in discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

During a joint press conference held in Brussels alongside Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, Borrell underscored the importance of EU representation at the OSCE gathering. He mentioned his intention to participate in the official dinner but noted the need to promptly return to Brussels for other essential meetings.

Borrell disclosed the conclusion of substantial groundwork concerning fresh European sanctions against Russia in response to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He expressed optimism about the anticipated adoption of these measures in December.

Addressing the significance of the Ukraine conflict, Borrell remarked, “The specter of war in Ukraine remains among our top priorities. However, I see no indications of Member States experiencing what might be termed ‘fatigue.’ We simply cannot afford to become weary.”

Highlighting the EU’s extensive support for Ukraine, Borrell revealed that the collective assistance provided has already totaled €27 billion.
