Bulgarian coalition partners are meeting this evening to discuss about their position on Macedonia’s EU accession talks. Bulgaria has been blocking Macedonia from making the next step on the path to the EU since 2020, but, with new concessions from Skopje expected in the coming days, Sofia will be asked to lift the veto in June.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov announced that there was much progress made in the talks between the historians representing both sides to prepare a shared historic narrative. Moves in this regard are expected on Thursday and Friday, after which the situation will be clearer.

But the coalition includes parties such as BSP and ITN, who are far more hard line on the issue than Petkov’s own party.
