The Skopje Public Prosecutor’s Office has initiated an investigation into eight individuals on suspicion of endangering air traffic safety, as stated in an official press release. Citing Article 303 Paragraph 2 in conjunction with Article 22 of the Criminal Code, the prosecution has sought the detention of four suspects, while efforts are underway by the police to locate the remaining four.

Reportedly, these individuals are believed to have jeopardized the security of Skopje International Airport on January 4. Their alleged actions involved forcibly entering the premises with the intent to commit violence against an individual and disrupting air traffic services.

The press release highlights that their actions posed a significant threat to international air traffic safety, particularly during a period when 28 flights were being managed by M-NAV within the country’s airspace.

The severity of the situation is underscored by the assertion that the suspects may face imprisonment for a minimum of five years if found guilty. Concerned about potential flight risks, interference with legal proceedings, or the possibility of a recurrence of such actions, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has formally requested the Skopje Criminal Court to detain those individuals who are currently in custody.

Efforts to locate the remaining four suspects are ongoing as the investigation continues.
