The DUI party is blocking the appointment of new organized crime prosecutors, as it insists that one of its loyalists is promoted to this position, the MKD news site reports.
According to the site, the key issue is the prosecutor Arsim Ademi, who gained notoriety with his mishandling of the case against key Government linked mobster Zoran Milevski – Zoki Kiceec. Kiceec caused a fatal car crash late last year, in which he killed a young father of two, even though he was supposed to be in house arrest at the time. The victim was a DUI party sympathizer, but apparently some deal was reached, and the prosecutor Ademi underplayed the case and eventually Kiceec was given just six months in prison – on top of the two and a half years he is supposed to be serving for the Racket scandal.
Ten prosecutors are applying for the five empty slots. Ademi is the most controversial, and is currently under an investigation by the State Anti-Corruption Commission. But MKD reports that DUI insists that his nomination must be accepted.
