The new Law on Free Legal Aid, which entered into force on Tuesday, is to provide improved equal access to justice, with all court and administrative costs to be covered from state budget.

Citizens who have financial difficulties can turn to the Ministry of Justice and its regional offices and seek legal aid or a lawyer which will be covered from the Ministry’s budget. The novelty in the law is that all costs related to providing legal aid are now covered, Justice Minister Renata Deskoska said at a press conference on Tuesday.

This law, as she pointed out, contributes to building the rule of law, but also contains a human dimension which implies that the material possibilities must not be an obstacle to the realization of the citizens’ rights.
