French Ambassador to Macedonia Christian Thimonier said that he would not like to presuppose whether France will allow Macedonia to open EU accession talks.
The European Commission today recommended opening of accession talks for Macedonia and Albania, and with the Greek veto in the European Council expected to be lifted, France is the leading opponent of accession talks.
Thimonier said that there recently were elections in France, the country is also undergoing reforms, and that, in such cases, there is always commotion.
The country is in a period of great discussions, we are discussing a number of issues with many partners and I can’t presuppose the answer to this question. What I can point out is that the report will be discussed with sympathy and good will, the French Ambassador said.
He also assured the press in Skopje that France will soon ratify the NATO accession of “North Macedonia”. Thimonier pointed out that France has a bicameral legislative and that both houses need to approve the NATO accession, but he insisted that there are no obstacles to this move.
