In mere hours, professor Gordana Siljanovska gathered the 10.000 signatures she needed for her presidential nominations. Across Macedonia, droves of citizens went to the municipal election offices to sign the nomination, making her officially the first presidential candidate in the 2019 race, and also the first woman candidate of a major political party.

It is time that we unite, regardless of our politics, ethnicity, gender and age, and to bring Macedonia back to normal. I think this is the day when we begin our battle for justice in Macedonia. I thank you from the bottom of my heart, Siljanovska said in a video address.

She is the nominee of the opposition VMRO-DPMNE party, and is already supported by several VMRO coalition partners. VMRO leader Hristijan Mickoski and Secretary General Igor Janusev today signed gave their signatures in support of professor Siljanovska.

We are witnessing constant violations of the law and perversion of justice. One of the necessary steps for Macedonia to begin resembling something like a democratic country is that professor Gordana wins the presidential elections. I’m certain that the citizens will seize this opportunity for a major victory over the candidate which will be nominated by the despotic Zaev and the people who surround him. This will be the day when law and justice begin to return to Macedonia, Mickoski said.
