Macedonia and Bulgaria will jointly celebrate St. Cyril and Methodius, St. Clement, St. Naum and King Samuil. According to the government’s decision, these figures are part of the shared history of both countries.
At the proposal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, information on the first meeting of the intergovernmental commission between Macedonia and Bulgaria, established on the basis of Article 12 of the Treaty of friendship, good neighborly relations and cooperation, held in Sofia on June 10, 2019, was adopted at Tuesday’s session of the Government.
The suggestions for the joint celebration of the following figures from our shared history have been accepted: St. Cyril and Methodius, St. Clement, St. Naum and King Samuil. The two sides agree to promote the agreed and to align the dates and the joint commemorations as soon as possible. Every official celebration of these figures requires the historical truth about our shared history to be clearly marked, said the government.
Also, joint principles and comments on the content of textbooks for 5th grade in the Republic of Bulgaria and for 6th grade in the Republic of North Macedonia (Prehistory and Ancient History) have been accepted. The proposal of the Commission for reviewing the teaching material in textbooks for 6th grade in the Republic of Bulgaria and 7th grade in the Republic of North Macedonia (Middle Ages) by the end of 2019 has been supported.
