Today I have a meeting with the newly elected mayors who received the confidence to run the municipalities in the local elections that ended exactly one week ago and when that percentage would be expressed, it is about more than 70 percent of the municipalities in Macedonia, taking into account the population and citizens who live in those municipalities. Regardless of the political developments related to the central government, the resignation or not of Zoran Zaev, the fall of the current government, I think it is very important not to ignore at any cost what was promised to the citizens in the past local elections, said the leader of VMRO-DPMNE, Hristijan Mickoski on Sunday.
Everything we promised should be fulfilled, sleeves should be rolled up as soon as possible to start solving the problems of the citizens from all settlements, municipalities where VMRO-DPMNE and the Coalition for Renewal of Macedonia has a mayor, and where we are a coalition to work with the mayors of the coalition. Despite the fact that a huge number of municipalities are over-indebted, I repeat over-indebted in many of them, the initial information says and testifies about abuse of resources, people who were paid but did not go to work, maximum commitment is required from each mayor for to fulfill the promise, and all that I have said before must not be an excuse for failure. The changes that will bring the new future should start with changes in the behavior of the people who are responsible for the municipalities. And I will ask that to happen immediately, said Mickoski.
He stressed that mayors must not let down the citizens.
Secondly, my advice to them before this press conference was to show modesty in acting, to give up the privileges that were abused in the past by their predecessors in the previous term, and which the function itself brings as an opportunity. We need to show the citizens that what we said, we think about it, we do it. Immediately, I urge the mayors who are not from the ranks of the Coalition for Renewal of Macedonia and supported by VMRO-DPMNE to do the same. They should immediately give up the use or misuse of official vehicles outside the official needs of the municipality, misuse of municipal funds for inappropriate spending such as lunches that with their account correspond to something else then decent behavior, said Mickoski.
As a third thing, Mickoski asked the new mayors to go out on the field and be in constant communication with the citizens and jointly participate in solving their problems.
Our place as we talked about it in the campaign, is not in the comfortable seats, but among the people who need help because the people live badly. We do not forget every single promise we made and that is a huge responsibility for me. Trust will not be gambled by none of these people behind me. New times are coming. That is why we must not let down the citizens, all of you, said Mickoski.
He stressed that Macedonia is in a serious crisis, it takes a lot of work and responsibility to address the issues.
