Speaker Talat Xhaferi called for a Parliament session to dismiss Katica Janeva for Saturday, September 14th – one day before the mandate of the disgraced Special Prosecutor is about to expire anyway.
Despite Janeva’s offer to resign that she first made in mid July, after the initial arrests of her associates for extortion, the ruling majority opted to keep her in office until the end of her term. Her last move was to practically abolish her SPO office with controversial and likely illegal orders sent from prison, which the Zaev Government wants to use to transfer Janeva’s cases against opposition officials to other, also loyal prosecutors from the OJO office. Earlier this week, a motion by the opposition VMRO-DPMNE party to dismiss Janeva was rejected by the ruling coalition.
