Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski emphasized the paramount responsibility of Parliament and its represented political parties to complete the State Election Commission’s composition. He underscored that any deviation from this prescribed process risks compromising the integrity of the election procedures.

Addressing a reporter’s question regarding accusations from opposition parties VMRO-DPMNE and the Albanian opposition, Kovachevski reaffirmed the necessity to adhere strictly to the law in determining the SEC’s members. He stressed the importance of respecting the legal framework, echoing the need for compliance not only in the SEC’s composition but also in forming the caretaker government to ensure the upcoming democratic elections scheduled for April 24 and May 8.

Following Krenar Lloga’s appointment as Minister of Justice, a vacancy emerged in the SEC, designated for an opposition representative. The Parliamentary Committee on Election and Appointments outlined a list of candidates for the SEC member position during a session on Wednesday, to be further addressed in a plenary session.

Five candidates applied for the SEC vacancy advertised by Parliament, sparking disagreement between the ruling party and the opposition regarding the candidacy of Abdush Demiri from the European Alliance for Change. The ruling party contended that Demiri did not meet the necessary criteria due to his prior position as a party’s secretary general. In response, Albanian opposition MP Fadil Zendeli rebutted this claim, stating that Demiri had formally declared and verified through a notary that he no longer holds that party position.
