Political prisoner Mitko Cavkov was transferred from the Sutka prison near Skopje to the Stip prison yesterday evening.
The former Interior Minister, who was sentenced as a “terrorist” in the April 2017 trial, is sentenced to 18 years in prison. Stip prison warden Miki Todorov said that the transfer was performed for security reasons.
Two high profile prisoners held in Sutka were already attacked by a group of Albanian terrorists who survived their attack on the city of Kumanovo in 2015, an attack which was countered to a large extent owing to Cavkov.
Cavkov was also instrumental in the 2014 corruption investigation against Zoran Zaev, which, former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski says, is the reason for the draconian sentence against him.
