The UPOZ union, which represents public sector employees, announced a strike on Thursday and Friday, for two hours each day – between 10 and 12. This comes on the heels of the announcement from the SONK union of public teachers that they will enter into a strike beginning on the 11th.

Inflation is hitting consumers hard and after the Government agreed to hike the minimum wage and pensions, the public sector is also demanding a wage increase.

Trpe Deanoski from UPOZ said that the Government is notified of the two days partial strike and that he asks the public for understanding.

We hope that the Government will show at least some common sense and will help us find solutions to our demands. We face a problem where 95 percent of the public institutions continue to violate the law on the minimum wage and they are making catastrophic errors in the payments. Again, the public sector employees are the only ones who have to live with salaries under the minimum wage, Deanoski said.
