A day before her mandate expires, the Parliament is finally going to vote on dismissing Special Prosecutor Katica Janeva.
The ruling SDSM – DUI majority delayed the move as long as they could, until Janeva sent out her highly controversial orders from prison to effectively disband the Special Prosecutor’s Office, which she used to prosecute the opposition parties and to extort millions from businessmen. Now that Janeva ordered that the SPO case files are given to the OJO/PPO service of prosecutors, also led by people reliably loyal to Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, she is likely to finally be dismissed.
The Parliament session begins at 13h, and the vote on Janeva is the only item on the agenda. A two thirds majority is needed to dismiss her, and the decision should then be confirmed by the Council of public prosecutors.
Despite the fact that Janeva’s office was created with a two thirds majority, the ruling coalition wants to hand over her files to the OJO office without the approval of the opposition, which will allow Zaev’ regime to continue its persecution of the opposition officials.
