As the Zaev Government is looking for ways to uphold its promise to purge corrupt officials who abused their office to hire relatives in the public service, VMRO-DPMNE revealed the shocking case of SDSM member of Parliament Tanja Kovacev, who has hired half her family since assuming power.
Kovacev’s husband Dejan Kovacev was employed in the public airport management company, despite lacking the appropriate education for the post. Her sister, Katerina Hadzievska Jakimovska is was employed in the Public Revenue Service as an inspector. Her husband Boban Jakimovski was hired in the Skopje water utility company and her husband’s sister Eleonora Fundu has been appointed to the Oversight Board of the airport company. This makes Kovacev a record breaking member of Parliament in nepotistic hiring of her relatives. It is unacceptable that this case is resolved with mere fines of several hundreds euros. She and all others like her must resign, said VMRO-DPMNE spokesman Dimitar Arsovski.
Pressured by the dramatic drop in support compared to the 2017 municipal elections, Zoran Zaev issued a half-hеarted call to his officials who have abused their power to get their relatives hired to call on them to resign, but for every of the few instances when he was obeyed, dozens of new cases of nepotism were reported. So far, Zaev refused to call on the offending officials to resign themselves.
