Four new members of Parliament will be sworn in today – they will take the place of the representatives who were elected mayors in the local elections.
Given the local elections outcome, most of these are from VMRO-DPMNE, which had four of its representatives elected mayors. Toni Mucunski (elected Mayor of Aerodrom) will be replaced in Parliament by Toni J?arevski. Darko Kostovski (Butel) is being replaced by Zoran Kocevski. Ivan Jordanov (Stip) will be replaced by Dragan Kovacki. Kiril Pecakov (Ohrid) will be replaced
In SDSM, Kostadin Kostadinov, who was elected Mayor of Strumica, will be replaced by Ljubica Spasova.
Two additional members of Parliament were elected mayors in the second round of the elections. They are Kiril Pecakov from VMRO and Bilal Kasami, leader of the BESA party, who was elected on the mixed SDSM led ticket in 2020. This will lead to a change in the Parliament where an SDSM representative will take Kasami’s place, reducing BESA’s total number of seats from four to three – which could prove important in the on-going negotiations over whether the Zaev coalition will survive.
